  • Do I need a referral?

    Sports Medicine

As at 1 November, 2010, a referral from a medical practitioner/GP is recommended to see a Sports Physician at SportsMed Subiaco. A referral is recommended due to recent changes to the Medicare system where a patient that has been referred by a medical practitioner, such as a GP or specialist, a higher Medicare rebate will apply. Please be aware that you are still able to make an appointment directly or via referral from an allied health practitioner (physiotherapist/podiatrist/pharmacist etc) however a lower Medicare rebate will apply for these consultations. A new referral is required for each new injury/problem.

Please remember to bring any relevant information such as x-rays, scans or other medical investigations to your appointment

    Physiotherapy

A referral is not required to see a Physiotherapist

  • Do I need to bring anything or wear anything in particular?

Please bring any x-rays, scans or other medical tests that are relevant to your injury to your appointment with a Sports Doctor and/or Physiotherapist.

For ease of examination, please wear comfortable clothing or bring a change of clothes that allows our practitioners to adequately view and assess the injured area. This is particularly pertinent for injuries of the shoulder/thoracic region and the hip/knee region. We respectfully ask all female patients with shoulder-related injuries to consider wearing or bringing along a singlet.

Our Physiotherapists regularly incorporate exercise therapy and rehabilitation into their consultations, therefore access to clothing and footwear that allows you to move freely and comfortably while performing functional tasks or exercises may be required.

For Orthotic Assessment, please bring your sports shoes and/or work shoes. Ladies may benefit from bringing a small selection of your usual footware.

For Compartment Pressure Testing, you will need to bring clothes and footwear suitable for exercise.
