Dr Monica Zheng is a Sports and Exercise Medicine Physician Registrar undertaking her specialist training through the Australasian College of Sport and Exercise Physicians. She is passionate about working with people who are driven by functional improvement in daily activities and performance at recreational, amateur and professional levels.

Monica brings a unique background to her sports medicine practice. Her clinical interest in sports began during her previous career as a Podiatrist, where she was involved in fun runs, community netball and rugby tournaments and worked with WA Ballet from 2017-2021. Following her graduation from the University of Notre Dame in 2021 with a Doctor of Medicine, she has gained extensive experience in multiple surgical specialties, including Orthopaedic Surgery, Plastic Surgery, General Surgery (Breast and Hepatobiliary/Transplant) as well as Emergency Medicine and General Medicine terms in the North Metropolitan Health Service.

Monica is currently the doctor for the West Coast Eagles AFLW, and has previously been the doctor for East Perth Football Club. She has also provided medical support for WNBL and Racing WA events. She values a multidicisplinary approach to management, involving physiotherapy, podiatry, dietetics amongst other medical and allied health professionals in the care of her patients.

Parallel to her clinical career has been involvement in research, with publications in the fields of sports medicine and orthopaedics in tendinomechanobiology, tendinopathy and osteoarthritis. She enjoys expanding her network at conferences nationally and internationally, including at the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), International Association of Dance Medicine and Science (IADMS) and European Congress of Sports and Exercise Physicians (ECOSEP).

      Personal Interests

She has a tendency to get involved in all kinds of activities – in her youth as a ballet dancer, playing tennis, netball, hockey and basketball at various stages and umpiring Australian Rules Football. These days when she’s not watching AFL or cricket, you’ll find her on the tennis court, the gym or her favourite pilates studio and occasionally on the ski slopes in Italy.
